Agra

Agra the home of the Taj Mahal

Agra was the capital of the Mughal empire during the 16th and 17th centuries, attracting artisans from Persia, Central Asia and India during the construction of the vast forts or palaces, mausoleums and gardens. It’s most famous building is the Taj Mahal one great wonders of the World.
Agra’s location on the banks of the Yamuna River and on the grand trunk road linking eastern India, means that it commands a strategic location visited by merchants and traders from all over the world.

Agra has many spectacular buildings besides the Taj Mahal which are well worth visiting in their own right. Here we will tell you about the sites we visited and what we found.

Three sites in and around Agra are classed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO – the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort (or palace) and Fatehpur Sikri.

Hundreds of thousands of tourists visit Agra each year primarily to see the Taj Mahal. Many miss out on the other important sites which helps build a picture of what is available in Agra.
